Jeffrey Brian Gardner
Son's death spurs international volunteerism Jeffrey Brian Gardner was killed on September 11, 2001. His family established a fund in his name to provide scholarships to college students participating in Habitat for Humanity International’s Global Village program. Global Village trips give participants the opportunity to become active partners with people of other cultures. The Global Village volunteer program consists of short-term house-building trips designed to give concerned people the opportunity to mingle with other cultures and contribute directly to an overseas community. Global Village volunteers cover the cost of their own trips and often engage in fundraising campaigns to help defray those costs. The Jeffrey Brian Gardner Scholarship provides funding support to enable college-aged participants to go overseas. Once a team has formed and is scheduled to travel, a college-aged individual member of that team or the team leader him/herself may apply for a maximum of $500 per person through the Jeffrey Brian Gardner Scholarship Fund. Our Voices Together encourages people of all faiths and backgrounds to apply, to promote action that embraces the values that Jeffrey Brian Gardner lived for. Founded by 9/11 families and friends, Our Voices Together seeks to empower ordinary citizens to respond to terrorism through international volunteering, interfaith and intercultural dialog, donating time and resources and much more.
